Date
June 2024 - October 2024
Location
Los Angeles
In Summer 2024, I participated in the Newhouse LA program, an immersive experience that allows undergraduate communications students from Syracuse University to live, study, and intern in Los Angeles. While enrolled in the program, I took industry-focused coursework and interned locally, gaining firsthand exposure to the entertainment and media landscape.During the program, Dr. Robin Howard hired me as a student reporter to document and reflect on the experiences of participants in the cohort. I wrote two in-depth articles for publication through the Newhouse School.
The first piece centered on Two Truths and a Lie, an original game show our program helped develop and produce in partnership with industry professionals. I conducted interviews with the show’s executive producers and several contestants, observed the whole production process from behind the scenes, and even participated as a contestant, which allowed me to report with both a journalistic and first-person perspective. The article highlighted not only the format of the show, but also the educational value of student involvement in real-world television production.
My second article was a guide for incoming Newhouse LA students, offering tips and recommendations for navigating Los Angeles as a student Drawing from my own experiences, I curated a list of neighborhoods, restaurants, and local attractions, blending practical advice with personal insight. To enhance the piece, I designed an interactive map that helped readers visualize the city’s layout and discover places to explore based on proximity and interest.
Both pieces showcased my ability to report with clarity, voice, and creativity, while contributing meaningful content that supported future students in the program.
