Untitled Project

I was on staff at MAJOR Magazine, Syracuse University’s student-run fashion publication, from its inaugural issue, serving as a print writer with a focus on fashion and culture. As one of the founding contributors, I played a key role in shaping the voice and editorial direction of the magazine while using each issue as an opportunity to explore new subjects and develop my reporting skills.

For Issue One, I wrote a culture-forward fashion feature on Tate McRae’s signature style, analyzing how her fashion choices reflected her persona as a rising pop artist. I approached the piece through a cultural lens, sourcing insights from online commentary, music video visuals, red carpet appearances, and public interviews. This article allowed me to explore how celebrity image-making intersects with Gen Z fashion trends and online identity.

In Issue Two, I expanded my skill set as a reporter by conducting original interviews for a feature on the intersection of fashion and theater. I spoke with costume designers, wardrobe assistants, and stage managers at Syracuse Stage to uncover how fashion functioned as a storytelling device in live performance. The piece highlighted the behind-the-scenes creative process and emphasized how costume design bridged fashion and dramaturgy. This assignment helped me grow more confident in interviewing and writing dialogue-based narratives.

For Issue Three, I took a new direction, contributing to the magazine’s business and economics–themed issue with an article on beginner investment strategies. I researched financial literacy tools geared toward college students and young professionals. This feature challenged me to translate complex information into engaging, digestible content while maintaining MAJOR’s stylish and conversational tone.

Through each issue, I demonstrated versatility as a writer—balancing pop culture commentary, original reporting, and service journalism—while contributing meaningfully to a publication that celebrated fashion as more than just clothing.
